2014/15 New year skiing in the Alps
Verbier' ski domain ranges from 1500m to 3330m and is recognized as one of the premiere "off-piste" resorts worldwide. In particular Tortin, Gentianes, Mont Fort, Mont Gelé, Stairway to Heaven, Rocky Garden, Vallon D'Arby, Col de Mines, Fontanet and Creblet are all popular excursions as well as the fact that Verbier is one of the only resorts to have a mountain that has no pistes coming down it. Many top skiers have settled in the resort in order to take advantage of this valley.
The ski area of Verbier is divided into four sectors: Les Ruinettes, Les Savoleyres, Bruson and the resort itself. In Verbier alone there are 35 lifts (within the Verbier, Savoleyeres/La Tzoumaz and Bruson sector). A standard Verbier pass gives access to this entire sector, 33 standard ski runs, two snow parks, one "Jardin de Neige" (a relatively flat area that is used for small children learning to ski), four cross-country pistes and two walking areas.
During the summer months the resort is home to the Verbier Festival, a classical music festival of international acclaim, the Grand Raid Cristalp mountain biking competition and the Grand Concours Hippique horse show. Additionally, Verbier is chosen to; host Swiss downhill cups, have the Tour de France pass through as well as many local events held on a weekly basis.
With so many activities to do throughout both seasons, Verbier is a resort that will keep everyone happy. Some activities available are; Walking/hiking, bike riding, snowboarding, touring, skiing, climbing, swimming, snowshoeing, canyoning, fishing, Glacier walking, horesriding, golf, paragliding, rock climbing, adventure park, tennis, air boarding, ice climbing, husky sledging, ice skating, tobogganing and much more!
Verbier boasts some of the best après-ski and nightlife in the Swiss Alps. The Pub Mont-Fort is a favorite with the British crowd visiting Verbier. For more bars and nightclubs in Verbier see here. The Casbah plays techno-music, largely for a younger crowd of 20- somethings and has a great party atmosphere. There are regular party nights with themes such as Playboy, superhero and James Bond to name but a few! The Farm Club in the Hotel Rhodania caters to an older, 'riche' and sophisticated crowd with many Swiss regulars who come back to Verbier on weekends.
