This authentic mountain village is a short distance from the glacial cirque of Fer à Cheval, one of the most splendid limestone sites in the Alps and has remained unspoilt by tourist developments . Together with its nine surrounding hamlets, all situated at about 700 metres above sea level, Samoens not only has an exceptionally rich heritage, but is also a thriving community throughout the year. This is not a purpose built resort but there is goldola which whisks skiers from the centre of the village to the plateau at 1600 metresin 8 minutes from where you can ski anywhere in the Grand Massif.
