With 380 kms of mountain trails to bike on and chair lifts to get you started, the area has become well known for its terrain. Many events are hosted here, including the World Cup Downhill in Les Gets and the Avalanche Cup in Morzine. Mountain bikers can use these courses throughout the summer, along with the other courses in the Portes du Soleil. There is also the Passport Portes du Soleil which is available for all to enter in early summer. This is a race for the all round riders (downhill and cross country) which takes you all over the area.

Morzine now has a good scene for the Women, with girls camps running regularly and lots of terrain to play with to get your confidence levels up.

We have lived in Morzine since 1998 and can give you a great insight into the best routes to take depending on what you want to get out of your riding... be it leisurely riding with views and lakes for swimming, or exhilarating mach 5 downhill runs!

Mountain bike "Passeportes"

Follow the 'Free Raid' mountain bike course any time you like with 'Passeportes'.

As a result of the growing popularity of the Free Raid mountain bike event at the beginning of the season, the Portes du Soleil has made the course available to guide visitors around the area, with six checkpoints along the way and a certificate if you complete the course! At tourist offices, or local sports shops buy plates for your bike, a road-book, a Portes du Soleil mountain bike map and of course a book to be stamped at each checkpoint. (18.29€, lift pass included)

Whether by yourself, as a family or with friends, 'Passeportes' is a great outdoors challenge and an adventure for anyone who enjoys open spaces, speed, a good laugh and lots of fun!

The Portes du Soleil Mountain Bike Tour

The 80km of trails of the 'Tour des Portes du Soleil' are made up of 85% downhill, 15% flat and 5% uphill, and are accessed by 23 lifts running every day during the summer season. This incredible trek between Valais and the Vallée d'Aulps is recognised by the FFC (Fédération Française de Cyclisme). On the Swiss sections the route is marked by the Touring Club Suisse. The downhill courses are classed as red runs (for experienced riders), but there are many blue routes in the 12 resorts of the Portes du Soleil where you can practice in safety. Thanks to the lift system, it is possible to complete the 'Tour des Portes du Soleil ' in a day and have an amazing time! Why not spread the tour over two days if you prefer to take your time and admire the countryside, accompanied by the relaxing sound of cowbells and enjoy a picnic lunch on the grass or eat at one of the many refuges along the way.
