A day filled with traditional activities and trades comes to Chatel with the village festival La Saint Laurent. La Saint Laurent is the patron saint of the parish and is the cause of celebration for all local residents and visitors to the area on this day.

People attending the event will enjoy a whole host of village fun and activities with a procession of floats, demonstrations from the local villagers showcasing traditional trades and a host of musical entertainment creating a real festival feel throughout the day.

La Grande Odyssee is the most popular and difficult sled-dog race in the world, that brings together 25 of the most renowned international mushers as they race through a variety of challenging mountain terrain.

The event was first launched in January 2005 and has grown in popularity and acclaim with every year. The race sees the competitors and their beautiful Alaskan and Siberian huskies, travel over 800km through the regions of Savoie and Haute Savoie and climbing a gruelling 25,000 metres when they reach the Portes du Soleil.

June sees the Portes du Soleil transformed into a Mountain Biking mecca! On the last weekend of the month any self respecting Mountain biker will be leaving their sense and fears at the door and instead getting charged for a weekend of blasting down the finest tracks the Portes du Soleil has to offer.
Riders will be spoilt for choice having the unique opportunity to test their skills on 1000-2250m of terrain over several resorts (Morzine, Chatel, Morgins, Champoussin, Champery, Les Crosets, Avoriaz) linking France and Switzerland. However, those bikers amongst us more faint of heart need not worry as the lifts provide a great alternative route for the harder climbs and the variety of terrain means all levels of biker are catered for. The “Passportes du Soleil VTT” is first of all a convivial ‘rendez-vous’ for mountainbikers who want to ride for fun! It’s a moutain bike excursion based on the descovering of a territory landing over two countries. The lifts making this mountain circuit accessible.
