IXS Swiss Downhill Cup 2009 #3

Last chance for the riders to score some points before the final of the Cup in Bellwald.

It will be also the opportunity to discover once again this pist and try to beat the time of the best riders of the European Cup.

More than 250 riders are expected.

During this period of holidays, the public will also be present to support the best swiss riders.

Don Giovanni SOLD OUT

don-giovaniVerbier Festival’s performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni on 20 July at 7pm in Salle Médran is sold out.  But our patrons will have the opportunity to hear these singers in other concerts in Verbier:

René Pape, Thomas Quasthoff and Bryn Terfel – appearing together on stage for the very first time – join Lang Lang for the second half of his Carte Blanche concert on 21 July at 7pm in Salle Médran:  this concert celebrates their friendship with a group of popular songs. Quasthoff performs Schubert’s Die Schöne Mullerin on 25 July at 8pm in the Church with pianist Emanuel Ax and lieder by Brahms on 29 July at 8pm with Charles Spencer at the piano.

Balme – Les Carroz Hill Climb

Climbing a mountain pass!  Many a cycling enthusiast, following in the path of Tour de France “pros”, has attempted to climb these legendary passes!  The latest to join the list of twenty or so “notable hill climbs” is Les Carroz’s Pierre Carrée pass!  From the beginning of July, the “Balme - Les Carroz - Col de Pierre Carrée” climb will be lined with GSM beacons and kilometre markers to indicate the average gradient, maximum percentage incline and distance.  Microchips will be available from the Tourist Office for cyclists to record and calculate their time for this hill climb.  A reference time will be set by Patrice Halgand at the beginning of the summer.  Why not be one of the first to test yourself against him?

With an infinite choice of potential courses, the only rule to be followed is safety first. Traditional golfing equipment is used but with safe plastic balls. Tignes is a sporty, young and quirky resort and offers the added extra of having a varied and unique natural playground.

Ski Slopes Clean up session 2008 Summary

Once again this year, eco-volunteer groups from the different mountain ranges across France got together and mobilised 2,480 volunteers, who gave of their time and energy to turn their beliefs into concrete actions.

Clean-up days were organised in 52 resorts, and resulted in 17 tonnes of rubbish being picked up, which although less than lasting 2007 is still a substantial amount.

Tour de France to Pass through Araches, France

On Wednesday 22nd July come and support the ‘Tour de France 2009′ leaders in the ‘Balme’ climb to Araches and la Frasse!

 

A beautiful mountain run. The road will be closed in between 1:30 and 4:30pm.

Big White & Street Downhill

The Big White will be help Saturday and Sunday morning in 2 runs, maximum 100 riders Saturday morning, the first half will be qualified for Sunday morning’s finale. No worries the last 50 who didn’t qualified on Saturday will still be able to go up on Sunday morning and ride down just for Big White in Verbierpleasure, they’ll leave 5 minutes later and their time won’t be counted… Same start as last year from Les Attelas (2700m) but double the length arriving on the central square (1500m) for a total of 1200m altitude drop ! On snow of course but also dirt and cement on the final stretch. The route and the first half are the same as last year, and for the second half we’ll pass trough Les Combles, then Clambins, and take it home down Médran street.
