Tignes, France La Grand Motte glacier offers skiing above Tignes from 3,030m-3,455m with access by both an underground funicular and fast but more scenic chair lifts.

Stubai, Austria The Stubai Glacier is the largest glacier in Austria, 20 minutes from the resort of Neustift. Lying south of Innsbruck in the Stubai Valley, the glacier has a huge variety of runs, mostly blues and reds between 2,300m and 3,200m. There are fabulous off-piste runs.
Mountain bikers should choose the Portes du Soleil pass. In addition to the 24 ski lifts in the area, they can make use of all of the mountain biking facilities (bike parks, permanent downhill runs, etc.).

The Great Skiing and Snowboarding Guide has named Verbier “2009’s Best European Ski Resort’.” This is in recognition of the many improvements that have been made in terms of the resort’s tourist facilities and ski runs.
The Guide also saluted the cuisine of the L’Olympique restaurant, which was named “Best Mountain Restaurant 2009.” Verbier has also won back a star in the famous Michelin Guide. The critics of the famous gourmet’s reference have recognised the talent of Marco Bassi from La Table d’Adrien restaurant, Verbier, by awarding him a star.

Like most dramatic occurrences in life, they come along out of the blue, unexpected and most importantly uninvited. After a season long battle with my board, learning to ride it and learning to love it as a sport and a new hobby, you can only imagine my upset and pure frustration as after many weeks of it breaking my nerve, confidence and self esteem it actually went and broke something of the more physical nature – namely my left wrist!

The Montreux Jazz Festival has hosted the likes of Stan Getz, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Mingus and Dexter Gordon since its inception in 1967 and this year’s festival will see the likes of rock legend Lenny Kravitz and R’nB queen Alicia Keys.
