Pass’ Portes du Soleil MTB Festival 27th-28th June 2009

June sees the Portes du Soleil transformed into a Mountain Biking mecca! On the last weekend of the month any self respecting Mountain biker will be leaving their sense and fears at the door and instead getting charged for a weekend of blasting down the finest tracks the Portes du Soleil has to offer.

Riders will be spoilt for choice having the unique opportunity to test their skills on 1000-2250m of terrain over several resorts (Morzine, Chatel, Morgins, Champoussin, Champery, Les Crosets, Avoriaz) linking France and Switzerland. However, those bikers amongst us more faint of heart need not worry as the lifts provide a great alternative route for the harder climbs and the variety of terrain means all levels of biker are catered for.

Happiness is……..Being Able to Make Linked Turns (Finally!!!!)

Like a wise prophet once claimed….All comes to those who wait…Patience is a virtue…oh, and not forgetting…..All the good things hurt getting there!! I, like the rest of you fellow learners out there, trying to master the dreaded linked turns, have the snowboard wounds to prove the words of our wise predecessors. Namely, a matching pair of black knees, aches in places you never knew existed oh, and not to mention the inability to sit down without squirming!

Learning to Snowboard – A Right Old Pain in the Ass!

“Pain” is the harrowing adjective one needs to become familiar with when learning to snowboard. In fact its ridiculous how much pain you can endure over and over again purely to get yourself the “hell off this hill!”

Unfortunately, unlike childbirth, your body does not mercifully release a happy hormone that erases or at least numbs the memories of the excruciating and humiliating act that is your first ever snowboarding lesson. Oh no, the memory lives on and only becomes more vivid as you watch what can only be described as new borns whizzing past you down the slopes and chopping powder (whatever that may mean) whilst you as a thirty something look on dejectedly in awe and lets face it annoyance and total envy!!!
